“Too many leaders perform a role instead of leading from who they really are. I teach you to lead with courage, truth, and inner alignment—because you can’t create change by abandoning yourself.”

Taaka Awori is a transformational leadership expert and the visionary CEO of Busara Africa, a pan-African leadership development firm dedicated to growing authentic, resilient, and impactful leaders across sectors. With over two decades of experience partnering with public institutions, private organizations, civil society, and global foundations—including the Open Society Foundations, Mastercard Foundation, Ford Foundation, and the UN—she has helped leaders navigate complex transitions, strengthen governance, and build inclusive cultures that last.

Taaka’s true gift lies in enabling leaders to do the inner work required to lead with empathy, grace, and boldness. She is known for creating safe, reflective spaces where leaders can think deeply—while also challenging them to step beyond their comfort zones to unlock their fullest potential.

Her leadership extends well beyond her work at Busara Africa. She serves as Chair of the Board at both the African Women’s Development Fund and the International Service for Human Rights in Geneva—roles that reflect her deep commitment to leadership, governance, and human rights.

Educated at Harvard University (Political Science, B.A.) and Columbia University (J.D. in Law), Taaka also holds a Certificate in Organisational Development from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland and an Advanced Certificate in Coaching from the International Coaching Academy in Melbourne. Yet, she often says her greatest leadership lessons come from being a mother to two teenagers—learning patience, the art of guiding without controlling, and leading with purpose.

She is the author of Leadership in Africa Reimagined Redefined: Untold Stories, a groundbreaking book that is transforming how leadership is taught across the continent. Through powerful African stories, it reframes leadership as an expression of who you are, not just the title you hold. Her influence also extends to the Leadership in Africa Redefined podcast, where she engages trailblazing African changemakers in raw, unscripted conversations about the challenges and joys of leading with integrity today.

In 2024, Taaka was named one of Africa's 100 Most Influential Women.
